LEGO Ninjago

Ninjago is LEGO's unlikely success story: an in-house series that has been producing mechs, dragons and temples for more than a decade. It works by seasons — each arc brings its batch of sets and the previous one is retired as a block. That produces a very readable retirement pattern: when you see several sets from the same batch with a date, it is the end of a season.

What deserves attention: the big dragons and the main characters' mechs are what the community looks for years later; the Legacy re-releases are the sign that LEGO knows which originals sell for high prices. If your little one loves a specific dragon from the season that is ending, it is one of the few children's purchases where getting ahead of the retirement makes real sense.

For the adult buyer there is a second reading of the theme: Ninjago has earned its own line of display sets — huge temples and cities, anniversaries, museum pieces from the ninja universe — that holds up over time like Icons, not like the children's line. Those big sets do not follow the season cycle: they arrive as events, live through their run and become the pieces the community chases years later. If the theme was part of your childhood and you are coming back now with an adult budget, that celebration line is where to look first — and where the retirement date becomes a real alarm again. The data block on this page tells you which month the next batch closes and which bigger piece goes with it — the quick way to know whether the arc your household follows is on the way out.
