Speed Champions at a glance, according to the official lineup

Data from the daily sync with the LEGO lineup; dates can change and each set page shows the current one.

Speed Champions is the theme for car enthusiasts with a small shelf: real cars at minifigure scale, licensed from every brand. The commercial mechanics are transparent — each year a new grid comes in and another goes out — and licensing rules: when LEGO stops holding the rights to a brand, its cars do not come back.

That creates the clearest buying pattern in the whole range: the specific car you want (your brand, your model, your era) exists only once. There is no "other identical 911" — there will be another Porsche, but not that one. In the buyer's corner: they are among the cheapest licensed sets, so getting ahead costs little. Against: the short runs mean the popular ones sell out even before their official date.

The theme also has a little-told competitive side: it is the top gateway into LEGO for real car enthusiasts, and that makes its retirements feel different depending on the brand. The makers with a continuous presence (the Germans, the usual Italians) have an almost guaranteed replacement from another era or model; the guest brands — the Japanese rally maker, the Swedish hypercar, the American classic — appear for one batch and disappear with it. Before letting a car go, ask yourself which of the two groups its brand belongs to: it is the best predictor of whether there will be a second chance. The date-sorted grid below works here as a literal starting grid: the cars that leave first, first — with their current price against the official one alongside.
