Classic at a glance, according to the official lineup

Data from the daily sync with the LEGO lineup; dates can change and each set page shows the current one.

Classic is LEGO in its purest form: boxes of bricks by shade and size, no franchise, no instructions that matter. It is the theme bought by grandmothers and teachers, and the only one where we can say it without nuance: here, retirement does not matter. A retired tub of bricks is replaced by the next tub of bricks.

So why does this page exist? Because there are two smart uses of Classic within a buying strategy: it is the cheapest way to get a volume of pieces for free building (compare the price per piece with any licensed set), and the special anniversary boxes or those with rare shades do have an audience looking for them. For everything else: buy the current box, in the size the project calls for, and start building.

To get the most out of the theme there is only one piece of technical knowledge worth having: what each format contains. The medium boxes offer the widest variety of shades; the tubs and cases put volume of basics first; and the "add pieces" packs (wheels, eyes, hinges) are the ones that turn a pile of bricks into toys that move. The winning combination for starting from scratch is a medium box + an add-on pack — it covers 90% of a free builder's ideas. And keep the boxes with dividers: sorting by shade is, according to any building family, the difference between playing and rummaging. Even so, the grid below shows the few boxes in the theme with an announced date: if one of the special ones is among them, you now know where Classic's only legitimate hurry comes from.
